Denise Shapiro DDS, MA
Dr. Denise Shapiro was the first practicing female periodontist and is currently one of only five board-certified periodontists in Rhode Island. She built and maintains a beautiful state-of-the-art periodontal office on the East Side of Providence. She has been practicing periodontal therapy (gum treatment) since 1987 and has created a reputation as an outstanding clinician. Dr. Shapiro enjoys her relationship with her referring dentists in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and has established excellent communication with them. That, as well as her attention to detail and follow-through with the patients allows her to give individualized and special treatment for her patients. Dr Shapiro has performed volunteer dentistry on orphan children in Bolivia, Panama and Cambodia, and participates with the Donated Dental Services program. She is best known for her esthetic procedures including gum recontouring (esthetic crown lengthening) and connective tissue grafting.
Denise Shapiro is a graduate of Emory University and Columbia School of Dental and Oral Surgery. Her post graduate training was done at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. Dr. Shapiro became Board Certified in 1993 as a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. She has served on the American Dental Association Council on Insurance as well as the Committee on the New Dentist. Dr. Shapiro is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Dental Honors Society. In 1996 she was inducted into the International College of Dentists.
Danika Crabtree DMD, MS
Dr. Danika Crabtree has been a part of our team since 2012 and is a lifelong Rhode Island resident. Dr. Crabtree has extensive training in dental implants and will continue to place implants as well as perform osteotomy and lateral wall sinus lifts. As a periodontist, she has brought her esthetic eye to the placement of implants, especially in the upper anterior area, the most difficult area to treat. Dr. Crabtree also performs extractions, including third molars, both boney and partially boney impacted. In addition to other periodontal non-surgical and surgical therapy, she is trained to administer Botox and Dermal fillers.
Kendal Lin, DMD, MMSc
Dr. Lin earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a specialization in Biochemistry from the University of Virginia. Pursuing her interest in medicine and science, she began her career at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases within the National Institutes of Health. As a Research Fellow, she investigated mutations in a variety of hereditary immunologic diseases.
Dr. Lin received her dental training at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine as a Dean’s Merit Scholar. During dental school, Dr. Lin pursued additional training in the areas of anesthesia and special needs dentistry. She organized and led a mission trip to rural Honduras to provide basic dental treatments such as root canal treatment, extractions, and restorations to over a thousand patients.
At the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Lin completed her Periodontology Residency Program and earned advanced degrees in Periodontology and a Master of Medical Sciences in Oral Biology. In addition to her clinical training at Harvard, Dr. Lin conducted research and pioneered a randomized controlled trial in the novel use of placental membrane as a palatal wound dressing. This approach accelerates wound healing, decreases post-operative pain, and improves surgical outcomes.
Dr. Lin has received awards in recognition of her clinical talent and academic achievements and has been published in several medical and scientific journals. She is trained in the latest treatment systems and technologies and has a strong passion for continuing education and professional development in periodontics. Dr. Lin is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration, and International Team for Implantology.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Lin enjoys spending time with her husband and two dogs, Dexter and Brody. An avid dog lover, she can often be found exploring new trails with her dogs. She also loves traveling, taking yoga classes, and cooking.
